Applying Lean in a warehouse environment refers to the streamlining of warehouse processes and practices in order to improve efficiencies and performance, minimize transactions, eliminate process waste, reduce total cost of inventory and working as an integrated team to provide optimal value to internal and external customers. We all know of inherent wasteful activities in warehousing such as defects; over stocking; over checking; re-packing; obsolete stocks; shortages; drivers waiting etc. There are significant opportunities to reduce inventory investment and optimize inventory turns through adopting Lean practices in collaboration with other members of the supply chain.
A Lean warehouse allows organizations to serve customers faster, with less space, with less inventory, and with more accuracy.
