As a non-statistician, you may struggle to understand what Six Sigma is all about or what is the value in the collection of all this data. This course will give you the basics so that you understand what is being discussed and more importantly, you will know when to defer to a Six Sigma Specialist. It assumes that your knowledge of statistics was left in High School/Secondary School and does not attempt to create any more statisticians. This is Six Sigma for Lean Practitioners.

Course Overview

The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Implement & Control) process which is used as a backdrop to explain the key elements of Six Sigma. It gives you enough information in a non-technical format so that you can understand what Six Sigma is about. More importantly, it identifies what tools in Six Sigma are used in everyday CI and how it can help you in being a Lean Practitioner.

Expected Outcomes

Understand Define stage of the process – SIPOC, VOC, VOD, QFD, VSM and FMEA.
Use the Measure phase to collect relevant data
Analyse the data collected – basic understanding of distribution curves, Hypothesis testing
The Improve phase will use DFSS, DOE, TOC, Poka Yoke, Cp & Cpk
Finally, the control Phase will look at SPC charts and SOPs
Know what every anagram above is, what it means, when to use it and when to call a Six Sigma Black Belt

Meet your Trainer

Dermot Freeman who is an engineer, a natural teacher and mentor that has been involved in all aspects of Lean/Continuous Improvement over the last 40+ years. He is a Master Black Belt practitioner of Lean and has worked for Irish, German, Japanese and several American organisations across the food, medical device and FMCG sectors. He has worked with companies where Six Sigma was used and abused. He is a storyteller who brings to life Lean from personal experiences of making it real. He is also an ISO Lead Auditor and a Certified Scrum Master using the Lean techniques developed in the software development sector.
Dermot is comfortable working with Micro, SME and multinationals. He has trained and mentored various University Black Belt programs for the last 10 years.
